As you may have noticed, it’s extremely difficult to get hold of hydro-alcoholic gel in pharmacies. At Pierre’s pharmacy, we have gel in stock, but we are obliged to limit sales to 1 bottle per checkout.
Your pharmacy can also manufacture them, but raw materials are also in short supply: glycerol shortages, bottle shortages and alcohol supply tensions.
So at the drugstore we tested for you and chose the best homemade recipe:
- Take a bottle of aloe vera gel, preferably a pump bottle.
- Remove half of it and keep it aside to treat minor injuries.
- Add the other half of 90° alcohol as the active substance
- Add 5 drops of ravintsara essential oil for anti-viral action.
- Add a few drops of lavender or tea tree essential oil as desired.
- Stir vigorously and a sort of mucus will form, which you’ll need to stir again to homogenize;
Alternatively, you can always follow the official WHO recipe, but the preparation is more risky for amateur chemists given the presence of hydrogen peroxide and glycerol.
Finally, don’t forget that washing your hands with soap and water is just as effective. And remember to do it again as often as possible.
